RANGE VIT PROTECT | OURS GLAZING FOR FLOOR TILES

FLOOR GLASS

The FLOOR GLASS floor tile, for illuminating, designing and resizing interiors.

FLOOR GLASS floor tiles can be laminated glass, toughened or untoughened, with a toughened glass component at the top that is highly resistant to impacts and scratches, known as the wear plate. This is followed by two layers of PVB or EVASafe film and two further layers of glass.

The FLOOR GLASS floor tile is specially designed for use as a floor covering, both indoors and outdoors, and blends in perfectly with the home. Its radiation from the floor improves the percentage of natural light passing through the glass, reducing the need for artificial lighting and saving electricity.

These elegant glass floor tiles blend subtly with all floor coverings (parquet, tiles, waxed concrete, etc.). Perfectly waterproof, its shiny surface illuminates the room, perfect for creating a light well in a structure.

Often used to create transparent effects and bring a modern touch to a room, FLOOR GLASS floor tiles can be used in a variety of rooms in a house or building, including staircases, corridors, kitchens, living rooms, offices, etc. Most often used for aesthetic reasons in interiors, they give the impression of enlarging the space by creating a sensation of depth. This type of glass paving can be used in private homes as well as in public places.

Technical specifications

What type of glass should I choose for my floor tile?

The choice of glass for a floor tile depends on a number of factors, including safety, strength and aesthetics. Here are a few types of glass commonly used for floor tiles:

Laminated glass: Laminated glass is glass made up of different layers of glass (for example, 2 x 15mm panes plus a 6mm toughened safety glass pane) joined together by EVASafe films. It is used for floor tiles because it offers excellent resistance to impact and pressure. When the glass breaks, the film holds the pieces together, preventing the glass from shattering into small, sharp splinters.

Tempered laminated glass: Tempered glass is heat-treated glass that is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass. It is often used for floor tiles because, for equivalent strength, it can be used in thinner compositions (e.g. 2 panes of 10mm glass plus one of 6mm for wear glass). In floor tiles, it will obviously be assembled as laminated glass to maintain the safety and stability of the assembly. In this case, each pane is given an HST treatment to limit spontaneous breakage (this treatment should be applied to structural components, but not necessarily to protective components)..

Contact us to carry out a thickness calculation, in accordance with CSTB specification 3448, so that we can offer you a product suited to the installation site (private home, public area, balcony, etc.). We'll provide you with the solution and the associated calculation note!

Our FLOOR GLASS floor tiles can also be combined with our VIT Design technologies, i.e. a decorative insert, lacquering, digital printing, sandblasting or tinted glass.

HOW TO INSTALL THESE FLOOR TILES ?

Laying advice: to lay a floor tile, you need to make a rabbeted joint on all 4 sides. You need a minimum of 50 mm of rebate and suitable joints with the right hardness to absorb variations. Of course, VIT can supply you with the right joints and silicones for the installation.

Discover a sketch of the installation method, as recommended by the CSTB book 3448.

Of course, anti-slip glass can also be used. This is glass that has been treated to reduce its coefficient of friction, making it more resistant to slipping. It is often used for floor tiles in high-traffic or wet areas to minimise the risk of falls. See our STOP GLISS range!

Note: we recommend the use of an opal film when floor tiles are to be used on upper floors, to prevent any risk of unwanted transparency.
