Why use fire protection glazing?

Innovative and safe glazing is a real ally for the performance and safety of all buildings.

Pourquoi utiliser un vitrage de protection contre les incendies ?

In France, a fire breaks out every two minutes, a number that has doubled in 20 years. Also, smoke kills more than fire itself: 80% of fire victims die from smoke inhalation. Installing a smoke detector in every home is a simple gesture that can save a life. In buildings open to the public, in particular, it is also advisable to choose fire-resistant glazing, known as flame-retardant and fireproof glazing.

Fire-resistant glazing, also known as flame-retardant or fire-stop glazing, is used to minimise risks and protect people and property in the event of a fire. Windows and doors are vulnerable points in a building when it comes to the spread of fire, which is why it is often advisable to install our VIT Stop Fire glazing, part of our VIT Protect range.

VIT Stop Fire glazing consists of several panes of glass, joined together with intumescent resin and, in some cases, with PVB film: the EG versions are designed for external use. For more than 25 years, we have been offering these products at the best possible delivery time throughout France to protect your buildings from flames.

We offer you several different glazings according to your needs.

Fire-resistant glazing is designed to resist heat and flame. It can be used to prevent the spread of flames, smoke and gases. It also reduces heat radiation during a fire.

The installation of fire resistant glazing within a building can provide valuable time to evacuate occupants and allow the emergency services to intervene. Indeed, the use of fire resistant glazing is essential to ensure the safety of people and property in buildings in the event of a fire. Our VIT Stop Fire glazings meet these needs according to your project.

Are you still wondering why you should choose technical fire resistant glazing ?

Here are the main advantages of using VIT Stop Fire glazing :

  • Fire safety glazing can be applied to a multitude of surfaces: on your facades, doors, partitions, glass roofs. You can apply it on a wooden, steel or aluminium frame, which makes it possible to apply it in all environments.
  • Fire resistant glazing protects against fire, gas, flames and smoke, on both sides of the glazing, for between 30 and 120 minutes, depending on the glazing chosen.
  • You will be protected from thermal radiation, allowing you to evacuate the building in better conditions, and limiting the spread of the fire.
  • In the event of a fire, the glazing will form an opaque white screen, limiting the panic effect, and facilitating the evacuation of occupants.
  • Safety laminated for the entire range, the glazing is designed to be held in place, despite impact or breakage.
  • One of the products in the VIT Stop Fire range, the Pyropane(DH) containment screen glazing, is a 6mm toughened glazing with a special coating. Suspended from the ceiling, it prevents the spread of smoke to upper floors as the smoke remains concentrated behind the glazing.

As a reminder, here are some simple rules to follow to avoid fires in your business premises and homes:

  • Install smoke detectors
  • Put out your cigarettes properly and keep flammables out of reach of your children.
  • Keep an eye on heat and electrical sources: fireplaces, kitchen hobs, radiators, multiple sockets used in overdrive, paper lampshades.
  • Regularly maintain your gas, heating and electricity installations, they are responsible for ¼ of fires.
