GOOD PRACTICES AND INSTALLATION STANDARDS BY VIT

BEST PRACTICES AND INSTALLATION STANDARDS BY VIT

In order to assist you in the best possible way, VIT provides you with explanations concerning the best practices to follow for the proper delivery, reception and storage of your technical glazing. Indeed, glazing remains fragile and must be handled with care.

Good practices for handling technical glazing

  • Reception

Your glass must be placed in suitable conditions to preserve your product during transport, handling and delivery to avoid any risk of impact, chipping and breakage.

  • Storage

This stage must respect different conditions in order to keep the quality and the new state of your technical glazing:

– On a flat and resistant floor
– On a support perpendicular to the plane of the glass, slightly inclined
– With right-angled returns allowing the glazing to be supported over its entire height
– Protected from bad weather and sunlight

Concerning its position during storage, each pane is separated by cork pads to ensure ventilation between the panes and avoid scratches.

In addition, the glass must be protected from all materials that could cause its failure.

The conditions are the same whether your glass is technical, thermal or custom-made.

Conditions for the installation of technical glazing

  • The rebate

The useful height of the rebate hu is calculated according to various criteria (in accordance with DTU 39):

  1. Dimensional tolerances of glass products,
  2. Dimensional variations,
  3. Minimum dimensions of the base and peripheral shims,
  4. Height of support of the glazing on the seal,
  5. Minimum peripheral clearances

  • Drainage of rabbets

Drained rabbets must not stagnate water or represent water inlets that could create prolonged retention on the edge of the glazing.

The minimum drainage sections are:
Round: Ø ≥ 8 mm
Oblong hole 5 x 10 mm

  • Function of the shims

The minimum distance between the edge of the glazing and the edge of the nearest wedge must be at least 40mm, to avoid excessive stress on the corners of the glazing.

The wedges must be secured!

We remind you the function of each wedge according to its position:
C1 wedge: base wedges to transmit the weight of the glass to the frame
Shim C2:
peripheral shims to prevent the glass from moving in their plane
C3 wedge:
peripheral safety wedges to prevent the edge of the glass from coming into contact with the frame when the frame is deformed
C3S shims:
securing shims to limit the stress on the frame during handling and operation.
